What it includes
An alumni program is support that continues after a treatment program ends. Leora's alumni recovery program offers:
- Ongoing counseling
- 12-step meetings
- Help finding work, including a resume and interview practice
Who can take part
The program is for people who have completed a treatment program or are about to. That includes people finishing partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient or virtual IOP at Leora. If your treatment was with another provider, ask admissions whether you can join.
The months after structured treatment are when support tends to thin out. The daily schedule empties and contact with clinicians drops, while old routines are still close by. The alumni program keeps a line open to the therapists and staff who know your history, and to other people in recovery.
Counseling after treatment
In treatment, the work is getting stable and learning skills. Afterward it is using those skills at work and at home, with nobody seeing you several times a week. Ongoing counseling gives you somewhere to bring what comes up, whether that is a hard week or a decision you are unsure about.
A return to use is a reason to call, and it does not have to wait for a scheduled session. Your counselor can help you decide whether you need more support, which may mean going back to one of Leora's treatment levels for a while.
12-step meetings
The program includes 12-step meetings. They follow the same model as 12-step facilitation, one of the approaches used in Leora's treatment groups, and they give you a regular place to see people working on the same thing. If a different recovery framework suits you better, tell your counselor.
Help finding work
Getting back to work after treatment can be its own obstacle, particularly after a long gap in employment. Staff can help you put a resume together and practice for interviews.
Warning signs
Call before things slide further if you notice:
- Sleep getting worse
- Skipped meetings or appointments
- Contact with people you used with
- Cravings, along with reasons why using would be fine this time
- Pulling away from people, or not wanting to say how things are going
If you have already used, call anyway.
Urgent help
The alumni program is not an emergency service. For a suicide or mental health crisis, call or text 988. If someone has overdosed or is in danger, call 911. Withdrawal after a return to use is assessed for ambulatory detox at Columbus or Dayton.
Getting in touch
Before your program ends, ask your therapist how alumni contact works at your facility. If you finished some time ago, call (614) 665-8878 or walk in at either facility. If you need to return to treatment, Leora accepts all major commercial insurance and Medicaid.
